Mining and Quarrying
- Sustainable mining activities in Bihar has provided the State government with an avenue for revenue collection. Over the years, the revenue collection from minerals has increased substantially. The revenue collection has increased from Rs 1082.70 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 1766.14 crore in 2021-22.
- Given the steady increase in revenue collection, the State government has substantially increased the revenue target from mining in 2021-22 (Rs. 2450.00 crore).
- This was 53 percent higher than in 2020-21. But the actual revenue collection against the target was 72.0 percent, much lower than the previous years.
Glass Industry
- Under this industry, bangles and similar goods are made. Sand, silica, lime- stone, sodium sulphate, lead, barium oxide, salt-petre, etc. are used as raw materials for this industry.
- Raw materials for this industry are available from Mangal Ghat and Pathar Ghat of Rajmahal hills. Glass industries in Bihar are located at Bhawani Nagar, Patna and Hajipur, etc.
Cement Industry
- Cement industry in India was started in Bihar. Limestone and coal are used as raw materials for cement industry.
- Lime stone is available in abundance in Rohtas district of Bihar. In spite of abundance of lime stone in Bihar, the cement production capacity of the state is not satisfactory.
- The biggest cement factory of state is Dalmia cement at Banjari (Rohtas District). Two other cement plant- Shree cement (Aurangabad) and Eco- cement (Kaimur) are set-up in Bihar. Presentaly, all the cement plants of the state are operational.
